I have written these works based on my observation of the
parallel aspects that exist in the cyclic nature of our twelve month calendar
and in the cyclic nature in Arnold Schoenberg's dodecaphonic (twelve tone)
technique. The pieces portray my different responses, within the limit of this
technique, to various stimuli typically associated with each month. Preliminary
research into the origins of our present day calendar led me to John Dryden's
translation of Plutarch's work, Numa Pompilius, (written ca. 75 A.D.) and
it is this work that is the primary historical source for my work, Kalendarium.
